Stop Waiting for the Perfect Moment

The moment you're waiting for may never come. Here's what to do instead.

Every month I sit down and write one honest note. Not a marketing email. Not a list of tips designed to keep you clicking. Just a real conversation about the things that actually matter — purpose, direction, faith, and the courage to take your next step.

The Coaching Insight

One of the most common things I hear from the people I coach is some version of this: "I'll start when things settle down." Or: "Once I get through this season, I'll focus on what really matters." I've said it myself. The problem is that things rarely settle down on their own. Life doesn't pause to give you a clear runway. The people who move forward aren't the ones who waited for the perfect moment — they're the ones who decided that this moment, imperfect as it is, was good enough to begin.

The Question Worth Sitting With

What is one thing you have been putting off — not because you can't do it, but because you've been waiting for conditions that may never arrive? Write it down. Then ask yourself: what is the smallest possible version of that step I could take this week? Not the whole thing. Just the next step. You don't need to see the whole road. You need the courage to take the next step.

The Faith Perspective

Proverbs 16:9 says, "In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps." I find enormous freedom in that verse. It doesn't say stop planning. It says trust the One who orders the steps. Sometimes the reason we're waiting for the perfect moment is because we're trying to control an outcome that was never ours to control. Faith doesn't mean you stop moving. It means you move with the confidence that you are not moving alone.

The Practical Step

This month, I want to challenge you to identify one area of your life where you have been stuck in "waiting mode." It could be a career decision, a relationship conversation you've been avoiding, a health goal you keep pushing to next Monday, or a dream you've filed under "someday." Write it down. Tell someone you trust. And take one small, concrete step before the end of July. Not the whole journey. Just the next step. That's how the road gets walked.

What I'm Reading

This month I've been revisiting "The Second Mountain" by David Brooks. It's a book about the shift from achievement-driven living to meaning-driven living — from building a career to building a life. If you're in a season of transition or asking bigger questions about what your life is actually for, I think you'll find it worth your time.

A Word of Encouragement

You are not behind. You are not too late. The fact that you are reading this, asking these questions, and looking for a better way forward — that already puts you ahead of where you were. Keep going. The road is worth walking.

Walking the road with you,
